The IELTS Academic Reading test is designed to test a wide range of reading skills, including reading for gist, reading for main ideas, reading for detail, skimming, understanding logical argument and recognizing writers’ opinions, attitudes and purpose.

The Reading test is one hour long and consists of 40 questions. There are three passages, each with 12-14 questions. You should spend about 20 minutes on each passage.
